Initially I contacted a pre-fab ADU drop in by crane company for our Berkeley property. Upon further research by myself, the pre-fab firm confirmed that I would have to personally sort out the PG&E (electric) EBMUD (water) separate meters and hire my own architect to comply with the utility companies requirements. I was pleasantly surprised that Typefive’s team coordinated both meter installations as part of their turnkey proposal. In addiction, I welcomed the possibility of adding a 10x10 POD to the project. This increased the added value for a future rental of the ADU and remote office (POD). Throughout the project, Aleksis and the Typefive team provided timely project updates. Like any project, there were challenges but always an open line of communication to resolve any issues.

We had an excellent experience with Type Five. We initially wanted a pre-fab ADU dropped onto our lot, but after many months of going down that road, the crane company said they couldn't deliver an ADU to sloping, flag-style lot. This turned out to be a blessing because we ultimately landed on Type Five who built us a much higher quality ADU in just a tiny bit more time. It is a beautiful house - and was in Dwell! Their designs offer enough flexibility that we got exactly what we wanted -- a 2 bed, 1 bath, "L" shaped ADU with a living area, small kitchen, and laundry. I managed a heavy remodel 10 years ago, and this was a substantially easier experience! They communicated well with us, kept the project within the budget, and had good solutions to various challenges with our unique lot, including difficult fire sprinkler issues. I feel like we got all the benefits of a custom build, without the uncertainty. They essentially build the same structure each time, and all the subcontractors know what they are doing, so they are efficient and can accurately estimate the costs. I recommend them to everyone I speak to!

We're extremely pleased with the office pod that TypeFive built for us. Tim, Aleksis, and their crew were wonderful to work with, friendly and responsive. The site was always kept clean during construction. They delivered exactly what we expected, quickly and without any extra costs. The finished pod looks amazing, and feels great to work in.

I've worked with about six different contractors over the past year on an exterior renovation project. Type Five was one of our favorite teams to work with. Communication is clear. They come when they say they will. Their timelines are accurate. And the best part is the build quality! I am really happy with the finishes and overall attention to detail of the pod. When I decided to use Type Five, all I had to go on was a couple of pictures, but I am really pleasantly surprised by how nice all the details are, inside and out.

I am thrilled with my new ADU/ art studio designed and built by the team at Type Five. Aleksis was great to work with; he quickly understood what I wanted in my space. He made great suggestions (and was open to my suggestions too) on what would make it functional as a working studio while still having beautiful design touches. The delays in getting started were on the city side (permitting); once the project was underway the work went smoothly and everyone was super to have around. Big thanks to Tobin who did a lot of hands on finish work on site. It’s a joy to go into my studio every day! I highly recommend them!

The Type Five team are wonderful. In the Summer of 2023, they built a pod for us, which doubles as an office and guest bedroom. From the first meeting all the way through to completion, the Type Five team were responsive, collaborative and went out of the way to make sure that we understood what was happening. At no point did we feel that we were being aggressively sold to or having any kind of an upsell--they were transparent throughout. The build itself was very straightforward and we're thrilled with the finished pod--especially because the Type Five team were able to match the exterior to the exterior of our house, making it blend in seamlessly. We can't recommend Type Five highly enough!
