She often does projects together and they continued to work during the process on various refinements and changes including planting on-site. As mentioned in the first review working with Matt was first rate. He has a skilled team that do things the right way.

We used Matt for our most recent project and they again did a great job with excellent attention to detail and quality.

South Bay Landscaping was exactly what we needed. We had a previous poor experience with another landscaper and we went into this project overly cautious. They met us where we were and gave us the information we needed every step of the way, including what was coming next. They routinely checked in with us and were open to answering any questions that came up.

As things developed, there were occasional changes we requested and they were open to those conversations, and (within reason!) often were able to incorporate it into the larger scope. They also were able to add our "while you're at it..." project to the scope and were very clear about added costs and timing.

SouthBay was recommended to us by our designer, Dawn Engel. SouthBay began the project in March 2024 and completed it within 4 weeks. The involved removing all existing plantings and soil, installing a pond-less water feature (a full day's work with a crew of 6), DG pathways and patio, extensive metal edging, concrete work, installation of 76 plants and trees with irrigation zones, lighting and a small bluestone patio. The crews were both courteous and knowledgeable, showed up when expected, and installed everything with care and attention to detail. In addition to Matt, Danny managed the entire project from start to finish and Marcus quickly took care of all project "add-ons" (there were several). Having had previous experience with several exterior and interior contractors during the past 5 years we can recommend SouthBay highly. We are delighted with their work.

Southbay is fantastic! They first redid our backyard 10 years ago, replacing an old concrete patio and overgrown plants with a paver patio, lawn, drought-resistant plants, and an arbor. The space has been perfect for family gatherings.

When it was time to redo our front yard last winter, I called them again. They completely revamped the space with a paver driveway and walkway, a dry creek bed, no-mow lawn, drought-resistant plants, a front fence, and outdoor lighting.

Both times, their quality of work was very high, and they were careful to get our input on all decisions big and small. And, they finished on time and on budget. Overall, we have been extremely satisfied with their work over the years and wouldn’t hesitate to hire them again for any future landscaping projects.

Javier and his team have been really helpful and we got our backyard and front garden box in great shape thanks to them. They also installed lighting in our backyard and removed a dead palm tree. They’re fast and kind and they have a lot of clients in the area.

They also provide monthly maintenance gardening and can do larger projects. If you are in the South Bay they are a great choice for new plants, upkeep, lighting and more.

Great crew. They were friendly throughout and engaged in almost daily conversations about the work and any modifications we requested. At the start of the project, Matt set expectations for noise level, hours and any disruptions to us or the neighbors. The crew was usually early but kept to quiet activity until the official start time and stopped all noisy activity on time.
Their execution was truly impressive, tearing up our front and back lawn, cutting and installing stone, including a beautifully laid out patio and grill surface. They installed electrical work for path lighting and irrigation to both lawns and to the three new planters that they built and installed. And, finally they planted a drought-friendly garden (designed by Dawn Engel) and then put down mulch.

South Bay Design and Landscaping has been extremely professional and fantastic! We had plans drawn up for our backyard and shared the plans with them ahead of time. When they visited onsite for a quote, we were impressed with the level of detail in which they studied the plans, came to us with clarifying questions, and provided practical suggestions. We promptly signed up with them after a satisfying in-depth conversation about how they were going to tackle each part of our project.

The project took a bit of time to get started (pending completion of their other projects), but once it did the crew knocked it out efficiently and finished ahead of schedule - in the midst of heatwave too. Props to them! The site superintendent Danny checked in with us every day before the start of the day to ensure that we were satisfied with the work done in the previous day and also confirm the work to be completed that day. We were pleased with their commitment to quality. When small adjustments or repairs were needed, they noticed and fixed the issues before we even had a chance to tell them. The team managers (Marcus and Matt) have been very communicative and responsible: always promptly responding to our messages.

We can not be more happy with our choice to go with South Bay Design and Landscaping and would highly recommend their service to anyone in need of a yard refresh.
