Thank you Smartscapes, for our beautiful new backyard.
Our home is a new build, so the backyard was bare dirt. My wife and I got a few other estimates, but we were most impressed by the professionalism and experience they offered. Turns out, we couldn’t have made a better choice. Ashton and his crew were a pleasure to work with. They listened carefully to the look and feel we were going for and delivered exactly that. Once the install began, Ashton and his crew worked all day every day until the job was finished. We love our new backyard and highly recommend Smartscapes to anyone in need of landscape construction.

Design-wise I'm happy, Ashton did good work there, however execution was poor enough that I would never use Smartscapes again. Communications with Jerry and Ashton were open and the guys are nice and friendly, however you will often have to pester them literally dozens of times over a single issue, and will often be left just repairing it yourself. I've been told "we'll be out there monday", "we'll be out there after the rain stops", "we'll be there at X time" at least a dozen times and nobody shows. It's so unprofessional.

In my case I had about 20 rock tiles fall off the BBQ, pool, and water features, and the $7000 granite L-shaped countertop come in 2 pieces that became mis-aligned by about 5mm a month after install. I re-mortared the stone tiles on myself after getting tired of waiting for months, but no amount of pestering via text or phone has got them to resolve the granite countertop issue.

I spent over $300k on the project and expected they'd stand behind their work as they said they would. I won't go too much into the fact the project dragged on for over a year because they kept pulling the crew off for other customers - that was annoying, but whatever. I try to be understanding. I just expect the work to be done to the level I paid for.

EDIT: Came back to add photos. Can see the $7000 countertops not lining up. A couple shots of the stone facade falling off (now about 30 tiles have fallen off since the job was done, this is just the latest set), and a shot of the $5000 fountain they got which has been peeling black paint since about 6 months after it was installed. Maybe needing to paint a fountain every 6 months is normal home owner maintenance, I don't know. Maybe that's not on smartscapes, but I expected more from a $5000 piece of concrete.

Also I had to stake the water spigots they installed. It was just 1" PVC pipe sticking up a foot out of the ground with a hose bib on it, and it broke the first time I was watering plants due to the hose tugging on it causing a 15ft tall gusher. They forgot to install the 2 or 3ft rebars tied to the PVC for support. I ended up doing that myself on 3 hose-bibs.

Smartscapes built our new turf field that exceeded my expectations. The crews were always on time and left the worksite clean at the end of the day. At one point Jerry did not like the work of one of his subs and tore their work up and had it redone. I did not see the flaw in the work but Jerry did. By the end of the project I knew we had made the right choice in choosing Smartscapes for our project.
