If you are looking for a structural engineer for your project look no further! Mike is a skilled engineer with excellent experience in projects of all sizes. He is a rare blend of technical expertise, experience, and friendly interpersonal skills. We have used him for 3 projects in 2 different counties including the addition of bedrooms and creating an open-concept kitchen. He took the time necessary to learn each county’s regulations and conducted a thorough inspection of the properties to support the engineering process. Our cabin is on the side of a mountain and is located in Santa Cruz County which can be difficult to deal with since the 1989 earthquake. Our project passed through with ease from the planning department to final inspection thanks to Mike’s attention to detail and knowledge of County regulations. He has excellent communication skills and maintained a positive attitude throughout the process. Mike worked well with our contractor and city representatives to answer any questions and explain calculations. He also made recommendations that ensured safety and stayed within our budget. You can trust Mike to make sure that your project is done right.

We switched from a well known engineering firm to Renovation Engineering, after being referred to him by our contractor who specializes in earthquake retrofits. Our home has a soft story, requiring the engineering drawings/plan to be carefully designed. Unlike the first firm, who provided drawings inaccurate to our home's structure, we met with Mike who performed an extensive review of our structure and at the same time established parameters for the design's performance. We were in awe with his thoroughness, comprehensive property inspection, detailed knowledge of earthquake retrofitting, as well as his quick turnaround in the design. Not only that, but his rates were more competitive than the previous firm's rates. He made design choices that would help reduce other costs in the execution of the work, but not the quality of the design. Mike did not ask for us to do a review, but given his outstanding work, we felt it would be appropriate to write one. We completed the retrofit today, passing all inspections quickly and easily. We are thankful to both Mike of Renovation Engineering and our contractor, RLFC Construction for providing us great team work throughout the entire process!
