RCS built our house back in 2006. They did a great job. Very easy to deal with. And we were pleased with a couple changes with the design that Mike had suggested. It really made a huge difference with the house. We love our house. I highly recommend them

RCS Construction is an embarrassment to locally-owned businesses in this area and gives them all a bad name. The overwhelming majority of small businesses in south-side Virginia are full of hard working and honest employees and this sham of a company squats over and ruins it for all of them. Every single solitary one-star review you see here is 100% accurate. It’s so on-the-money that Dora Smith herself created fake accounts to get on here and submit fake five-star reviews to try and balance out the average review of the outrageous reality of this awful organization. Other customers they have dealt with that haven’t left reviews here also say the exact same thing.

They talk nice to you while you consider their services and get ready to make a purchase from them, and they post these vague and generic inspirational quotes from the Bible and such on their Facebook page while also batting their eyes and making promises to you, but apart from showing up to turn a screwdriver to adjust hot water levels, as soon as they have your money it’ll take a miracle for them to ever show up to your newly owned house to take care of the things that they screwed up. Former employees of the company say they'll have people with carpentry background perform work on concrete, which would explain the awful sidewalk they put on the side of this house that I had to get fixed.

These people all but vanished from the face of the earth and barely ever responded to emails, calls or texts sent over the course of four months. When they finally reappeared and responded after telling them I was ready to file suit, they:

1. Told us that we should be grateful that we even got a house.

2. Lied and said they didn’t do work on something that needed repairing (five residents in the same neighborhood saw them do the work, to say nothing of the fact that they showed me before and after the work was done).

3. Used the fact that one of the owners had an illness to try and guilt-trip us into accepting their negligence.

4. Told us that we were being “unrealistic” when, after giving them until the end of July to fix these issues or be held financially responsible for someone else doing it, I started pricing contractors.

5. Tried to make me forget about the things that they won't do by bragging and reminding me about things they DID do, as if I should celebrate and say "congrats, you did your job properly on a few things. Here's your medal."

They back out of their commitments, ghost you after you give them your hard earned money, and cause undue stress on you and your family as brand new homeowners. If it’s too late and you have to deal with them, assume everything they tell you with smiles on their faces is a total fabrication and record every interaction with them, no matter how small. If you don’t have to deal with them, consider yourself lucky, turn 180 degrees, and leave as fast as you possibly can, unless you don't mind walking behind them and cleaning up their mess.

I had to leave a review for RCS Construction after I stumbled across this ad and read these other reviews. I am shocked at what people are saying! So I want everyone to know that we have only good things to say about OUR personal experience with Mike and Dora. We contracted with RCS Construction for our Lake Gaston home and it was finished last year. Let me start of by saying that everything went better than planned and they managed the entire project, including getting a 4-BEDROOM (Yah!) septic permit for us when we didn't have one! They met us every time we visited the property to answer any questions and show us around,
I don't know who these other people are that left these reviews, but they DEF must be talking about another contractor IMO! We quoted three builders at Lake Gaston, chose Mike and Dora at RCS Construction, and never looked back. LOL I highly recommend them to all our friends and neighbors and anyone else who is looking for a builder in the Lake Gaston area! They were always knowledgeable and professional, kept our new house on schedule and within the agreed budget, and we will call them when we are ready to build again.

Avoid this company if you are looking to purchase a home they rebuilt, or need work done on your home! Their false pleasantries along with their church going ways are to hide how little they care about mankind. Not only do they avoid doing any warrenty work on a house for a year that they promise, they use the cheapest building materials, and rush through their projects inadequately! (Or dont finish projects at all.)My house was falling apart from the inside out right after moving in. The few calls returned to us were lies about how they will come to my house, we also hear how busy they are...Or how no one told the other any of our issues! They leave you hanging with excuses of why no one has done anything, or that they will come that week. Months of chasing down rcs, and even going to the main office, which seems to never have anyone there, we have yet to this day, had any repairs done. They take advantage of buyers, and from what i hear, my family are not the first victims. They build dream homes More like they build nightmares.

Do not use RCS Construction ! Horrible!! This builder did not even deserve one star! Every aspect of the job was a problem. They do not honor warranty work. They suck you in and promise quality work and when you sign the contract and give them money they become rude and do not return calls. The work is not custom at all! False advertising. BEWARE!
