I've had to call the police a number of times while this company was renovating 1372 Peachtree St. due to them violating the noise ordinances in the city of Atlanta. I’m talking concrete saws 2 hours before it is legal to be working on a Sunday morning. I also left unanswered messages to Jeffrey Robinson who is on the building permit. When approaching employees of Merit Construction Company I was met with straight indignation for asking for a permit to violate the noise ordinance. I was only able to get the police to give a warning once but they’ll be known as bad neighbors and an unethical company forever.

I had an incredibly frustrating experience with Merit Construction, specifically with Mark Staff. From the very beginning, they were exceedingly difficult to work with. Communication was a major issue; they disagreed with nearly every aspect of our approved project plans and seemed unwilling to cooperate or find common ground. This led to numerous delays and miscommunications that could have been avoided with a more collaborative approach.

The most troubling part of our interaction is/was their refusal to pay money that was rightfully owed to us. Despite fulfilling our contractual obligations and delivering the agreed-upon services, they found various excuses to withhold payment. This not only caused financial strain but also added unnecessary stress and complications to an already challenging project.

Throughout the process, their lack of professionalism and disregard for our concerns were evident. Their actions caused significant headaches and made it nearly impossible to progress smoothly. I would strongly advise others to think twice before engaging with Merit, as our experience was far from satisfactory. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere for a more reliable and cooperative construction partner.

Extremely difficult to work with. We were subcontracted to install baffles in the Middle College at McClarin project. There were dozens of obstructions (due to drawing issues) and we sent numerous RFIs to get these clarified. None of the RFIs were ever responded to. I understand that design issues are not in the GC's control, but not responding is unprofessional. We mobilized from Tampa, FL and ended up wasting tens of thousands of dollars in flights and hotels to get one small answer at a time.

Then, they wanted to "deduct" scope from our contract after it was installed because they had to hire "local labor" to straighten baffles (that were still obstructed by ductwork, for which we never received a redesign).

Overall, we'd recommend extreme caution to subs considering working with them. It's been 8 months and we still haven't been paid for material!! We got an email and written confirmation in early April that nothing else was needed to release payment, but still nothing after 3 more months.

All calls, texts, and emails went unanswered until they needed something, and they demanded responses immediately.

Working with Merit is a very detailed, clear and concise experience. I worked with Sam Schilling last year, and every single question was answered with complete breakdowns on where my money would be going. I was quoted for a building and received virtually everything I needed clearly and as accurate as possible. I had to leave this review since I’m reviewing things a year later and I’m still thoroughly satisfied with their services!

I cant say enough about Merit Construction Company and the great work that they have done for our school. Mark Schilling along with his great superintendent Frank Welch have built all of our buildings as well as put in our field. When I call Mark or Frank they immediately respond within 24 hours or less and solve whatever problem I have. Frank is always looking to do things efficiently and a great person to work with! If you want great service hire Merit Construction Company, I am glad we did!
