I have applied to rent with Mark Andersen 3+ times for several of their properties and met all requirements

Credit Score over 740
Income just for me $65K
No criminal record

I’ve been told:
They went with Someone with more income
They went with another candidate

They do not go in order of application received, either.

Good thing is I received my application fee back 3 times, which makes me think they are prejudice, get your money back can’t complain

Is there any time else out there with a similar story, please share

My mom aunt and I have been renting one of their apartments for 5 years. This company is terrible, shady, and inconsiderate. In the first 2 years of living there when we had maintenance issues and they were able to send help right away and were on top of things. But over the years and recently they have been NO HELP. We have called and complained that our apartment needs to be fumigated because their apartments have roaches and we also had maintenance issues again like a leaking ceiling
and they took a long time getting back to us and we needed to fix a lot of things in the apartment. Their apartments are overpriced for what it’s actually worth my one bedroom apartment rounds up to almost $2,000 a month and it doesn’t have pool and you can’t have pets. I would sue this company because they did a few illegal things but getting a lawyer isn’t cheap. They ignore your complains, while living there I had terrible neighbors who put loud music on the whole day and night we lived downstairs so or neighbors were always stomping and arguing we told the company and they did NOTHING ABOUT IT. They also didn’t want to accept our payment method for the rent we gave them (on time) 3 money orders for the rent because we couldn’t do one full one and the company didn’t want to accept the money orders and demanded for one money order we went to different western unions and they told us LEGALLY the company has to accept the 3 money orders because the rent is one time. They were trying to find a way to kick us out because we previously paid the rent late but we added hundreds of dollars on top of our rent for late fees. We never CONSISTENTLY paid the rent late majority of the times the payments were on time. We also never got our deposit back which has happened to many other previous tenants. Another illegal thing they did is they never gave us 30- 60 days to move out they gave us less than 30 days which legally a rental company has to give you 30-60 days to move out. If your looking for an affordable apartment with great amenities and management this company doesn’t represent that again they are very shady and rude and inconsiderate. Worst management I ever came across.

I called and asked did they accept 3rd party programs once I applied Lauren let me know I was approved, once she found out I was going to use a program to help me everything changed! I even let her know I would pay the deposit out of pocket but a program does help me monthly. Then she denied the application after that and said she no longer wanted to move forward, im not sure if they're racist or what. But I even still met all the requirements. Ok credit and making over 3x the rent. Im deff gonna report them.

I rented from Mark Andersen for almost 8 years. I have no complaints. Maintenance requests were answered and addressed almost immediately. paying rent was convenient using their online system. The staff was friendly and easy to work with. I really appreciated the privacy and respect they showed me while living there. when I gave my 30 day notice recently, they were very specific on what they expected in order for me to receive my deposit back. they even gave me a date of when to expect my deposit. before that date I received my full security deposit including my pet deposit. I have always rented and this was the best experience I have ever had. I highly recommend Mark Andersen & Associates. Thank you so much Erica, Tammi and all the staff there.

I can imagine that they deal with a lot of rude tenants, but I do agree that they are a bit on the rude side. However, that does not bother me too much.

My real issue with them is the way they handle my deposit refund. I admit that I did have a spill and stained the carpet. Not a problem. I should be charged for that. However, I am being charged for upgrades. When I moved in the paint was patchy and grass was dead in a old tree area. They billed me to repaint the whole place and they charged me for the grass. Furthermore, they have charged me for the cleaning of the miniblinds. I hired a professional cleaning service and they cleaned all of the blinds and the rest of the place. They have an unaccounted for $99 on the deductions too. They have a "handy man" deduction that should have been covered under regular maintenance.

All I want is to be treated fairly. I left the place better than when I moved in. It is unfortunate that this company sticks it to its tenants. I have seen many tenants come and go and all them complain about this. My experience is not an isolated incident. This is a pattern so it must be a business model. You have to sue them to get your deposit back or at least start the process. To me, this is borderline criminal. If I stole $1100 from you, I should go to jail. They are a business so they put a description of work on paper and simply take your money. Since they have done this to all the tenants that I know, they will do it to you too. Avoid them! If you don't believe me talk to the current tenants. They will give you the history that verifies my claims. Avoid them!

If you want any type of courtesy or human decency, steer clear of rentals managed by this company. Not only will your phone calls be met with rude contempt but they will be sure to take all that they can financially from those ignorant enough to rent from them. After their property roof leaked onto our couch, destroying it, they fixed the roof and proceeded to raise the rent. The tack strip was coming up in so many places on the carpet that every member of my family bled from it. It ultimately left my son with a huge, unsightly scar on his knee. We asked numerous times for the carpet to be fixed to no avail. On top of all of that, we were given 60 days to vacate (because the owner planned to sell) with a promise of compensation for quick leave of the property. Not only did they refuse to pay us when we vacated 2 weeks early, they gouged us for over half of our deposit, charging for removal of items that were at the property previous to our arrival. We had cleaned thoroughly and left the backyard in better condition than it was when we arrived. We even removed many old buckets of paint at our own expense that were also there upon our arrival. They charged us for repainting, though we had lived there for over two years as well as window caulking, fixtures and blinds. All normal wear and tear items. Window caulking for crying out loud! They stole my expensive white board that was forgotten by my husband. Horrible, horrible people. No remorse, no heart. Stay away from rentals managed by very unprofessional Mark Andersen and his awful associates.

I truly wish the owner of the place I rent had someone else managing his properties. Or better yet, I TRULY wish Mark Andersen & Associates hired new, cordial, and professional staff. I've rented the house I live in for almost 3 years and I hardly have direct contact with the staff since I pay my rent on line. However, the very few times I've been to the office, staff are rude and disrespectful. I know there are times that we all have a bad day, but there's one person in the office that is ALWAYS on a bad day. I think it is the daughter of the owner. She is tall and heavyset. I wish I knew her name because it is necessary for the owner to know how she treats people. My first encounter with her, she was going through the application with me and I made a mistake. There are so many forms, but on one form I started signing on the wrong line. That lady literally snatched the form as I was signing and crumbled it up and walked away to get a new one. I was so embarrassed! When she returned, I apologized for my mistake. She just starred at me, but did not say anything. She just pointed to where I needed to sign, but it was obvious she was infuriated by my slip-up. I didn't get a bad impression of her at that time. I honestly thought she had a bad day and I had made it worse for her. On another encounter with her, I took my driver's license since she had already told me that they would need the new one because when I was approved to rent the house, my driver's license would expire that same month. Since she was going to make a copy for my file, I asked her if she could please make an extra copy for me since I also needed one for other reasons. I didn't think it was a big deal, but she was clearly offended by it and responded that there was a print store not too far away and that she could not make me a copy. Several months ago, I went back to the office to talk about an issue I was having in the kitchen. I had called three times to report the issue, but it was never taken care of, so I decided to go in person. As Nora, the receptionist, was writing down my information, another older man walked in and the same female staff (the one that I believe is the daughter of the business owner) walked over to the assist him. The man said smiling, "Good morning" to that staff. The female staff did not respond but just kept looking at him. The man handed her an envelope and as she was opening it, he tried to make small conversation by saying something about the weather. She completely ignored him and just asked if he needed a receipt. This lady has no people's skills. I understand we get busy, but there's no need to be rude! She doesn't acknowledge people and she is not professional in any way. Mark Andersen, please have this female staff of yours work in the back where she would not have to deal with tenants. Oh, and tenants, do not pay your rent a day late because she will call you and chew your head off even if it was your first time. I understand we need to pay the rent on time, but things do happen and there are ways to communicate certain things. She is awful!!!!
