It's a good farm, they have spend a lot of money making this place and installing solar panel etc. Hopefully it will stay at this place, builders are trying to grab this place and saying that it is in the residential area, but problem is not this farm but those greedy builders who are making houses like crazy in that area.

This is my second year coming to the farm for a fresh turkey. As before I asked for a 10 a 14 pound turkey. This year I came the day before Thanksgiving at 7 o’clock in the morning and was told they don’t have a 10 pound 14 pound bird. The lady helping me offered me a grocery store style wrapped bird in plastic telling me that this turkey was killed and fresh but they had to wrap it because they didn’t sell it in time. They wanted to maintain the freshness she said. That makes no sense. Part of the fun of coming to Maple lawn is the experience and getting that fresh turkey wrapped in paper and taking it home. The turkey they offered me I could’ve bought at a grocery store. So she kindly offered me a fresh turkey and I walked out with a 21 pound turkey. she told me she gave me a discount but when I did the math at home I didn’t get a discount. so if anybody out there who wants a 14 pound bird you need to pre-order it she says. I think this is a great place but I’m going to go to try a different farm next year to get a smaller bird. I drove an hour and a half to get there and we’re going to be eating turkey left overs until 2019

I have been buying turkeys from the farm for over 20 years. They have the best and freshest turkeys. The process is easy, just call order the size you want and the date you want to pick it up and it will be ready for you. I would never go back to buying a turkey any where else. You can also order turkeys at anytime. I have ordered turkeys for Easter as well and they have been the same quality as at Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you want a really good quality turkey at a good price, Maple Lawn Farms is the place to go.

OUR TURKEY WAS FROZEN!!! We ordered a fresh 10-14 pound turkey at least a week in advance, but when we arrived to pick it up the day before Thanksgiving, they gave us a plastic shrink-wrapped bird that was rock hard and felt frozen, whereas other people who presumably ordered larger birds were getting fresh birds without the plastic. I asked if ours was a fresh bird, and was told "well if being killed yesterday is fresh enough for you, yes". I asked why it felt frozen, and he quickly mumbled something about them having been "iced". This is outrageous. If they can't supply fresh birds they should tell people that. I will not purchase there next year; I'll return to the Amish Market in Laurel instead. Bait and switch! This stinks. Now we're having to deal with a frozen turkey on Thanksgiving Day.

The line was long two days before Thanksgiving, in the rain. However, the turkey was reserved on-line and was ready. The legs were tucked in, the giblets, neck and tail provided separate. The entire 18 lb bird was in butcher paper and two plastic bags.

The cooking method was kept simple; rice wine, garlic and green onions; honey and soy sauce glaze applied every 20 minutes or so. The thigh was brought to ~135 at the bone; the core of the bird was over 140 for at least 30 minutes, no internal stuffing. Dressing was under the bird. The turkey skin glazed/crisped very nicely. There was not as much subdermal fat as one might expect, so it didn't fill the pan with drippings or juices.

There was more flavor than usual; the breast was very moist, not quite as large as in some other birds, subtle in color. The dark meat was tender, moist, plenty of flavor. Carving was easy.

The giblets were also very tasty pan-fried; particularly the gizzard and heart.

Overall, it was an excellent turkey. The price was a bit under 2x the Butterball per pound at best discount. However, the taste was better than that of past 'free-range' birds from the local grocery. Every guest enjoyed it. It is comparable to the 'buddhist chickens' available in specialty stores for quality.

So long, and thanks for all the turkeys!

After a run of over 75 years, Maple Lawn Farms is now closed. A fixture in the Fulton area, with people coming from far and wide for their holiday turkey, Maple Lawn has finally succumbed to the times. This was inevitable, as the Iager family, the owners, had been slowly parcelling off nearby land for development. All that remained for the farm proper, and, as was the plan for decades, the remaining land will be turned into a luxury housing development. It was an amazing run, though. Apparently the star turkey production is slated to continue on another site, under their "Sho Nuff" brand they made famous. I hope this is the case. So, goodbye Maple Lawn Farms. You made me fall in love with Fulton.
