藤岡市の中心駅であるが走っているのが八高線な為大変こじんまりした駅となっている。東側へ抜ける歩道橋がある・常時タクシーが停まっている・駐輪場前に送迎車用駐車場がある、の3点は高評価。

当駅から高麗川までは1994年5月下旬までタブレット閉塞でしたが高麗川以南の電化工事に合わせて5月末日にCTC化されました。

群馬県藤岡市にあるJR八高線の駅です。八高線は高崎から高麗川までは単線で本数が凄く少ないです。また、電車ではありません。車両はいつも2両です。したがって、利用者は少ないです。

駅は懐かしさを感じさせるような駅舎です。駅舎内には列車が来るまでの座って待てるスペースもあります。売店はありません。券売機（ICカードチャージ可）自動改札、精算機ありです。高崎方面に乗る場合は改札口前ですが、高麗川方面行きは連絡橋階段を利用しないと行けない。エレベーター、エスカレーターはありません。車椅子の利用は厳しいかと思います。日中列車は一時間に一本ほどです。高崎行、小川町、高麗川行とあります。
駅前にはタクシー乗り場（数台とまっていた）、バス乗り場があります。駅周辺は閑散としていますが、徒歩10分圏内にはホテル、病院、スーパー、コンビニ等がありす。
