We built our new home with Gordon Milar a few years ago. We saw property in an area that we were hoping to build and it had signs for Gordon Milar. We called the number listed and Gordon answered, he patiently answered all of our questions, and at the end of our call we discovered that he was out of the country on vacation! We were impressed! Gordon was attentive and responsive in this same way all through our building process. This home would be our third new-build home and we knew what we wanted in our final home. Gordon personally helped us adjust our plans, moving walls, adding a half-bath here and a larger pantry there. We thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with him and seeing his attention to details and suggestions that we might want. As the build progressed, he was always available when we had a question and we often saw him at the site when we stopped by to check out the progress. We enjoyed working with the sub-contractors too. They were also friendly, professional, and responsive. Our home was finished in the time frame we expected and it turned out perfectly. We have loved it! It is so beautiful and nearly everyone who visits us remarks on what a beautiful home we have! Thanks to Gordon and his team!

He was rude and obsurd pricing. He gave me a bid and my eyes flipped back in my head and green lights came out like I was possessed by some chickens picking my pockets of my gems.....I thought it would be around a 30k project according to other bids I received... this idiot said 180k AT LEAST....trying to take advantage or wasn't interested in my small project. Shady either way...just don't set the appointment if you don't want small jobs. I actually have a professional licensed contractor that is reputable bid 28k.

We just finished building a home with Milar construction. Our home turned out so well and we are very happy to call it our’s. In a time when prices are fluctuating quickly and most everything is in short supply, Gordon was extremely honest and fair in his pricing. The time delays were always explained to us, and we actually closed 1 day before was expected!
Gordon is also a very happy, light hearted person that made the building process more enjoyable. Our foreman, Matt Todd, was FANTASTIC and was so good about always getting back to us, keeping us in the loop, and assuring issues got taken care of . The other foreman, Robert Gordon, was also great.
It has been a good experience building with Milar, and I’m very happy about our new home!!

We had the pleasure of building our custom home with Gordon Milar Construction. From the beginning of our journey to the final close date we had a very positive experience with this company and everyone we came in contact with during our home build.
When building a new, custom home the process can get stressful but having a company built on integrity and professionalism made all the difference in the world.
We love our new home and would highly recommend building with Gordon Milar Construction.

(Update 9/23/23): I believe I was being fair to GMC in my review and not going into specific details of all that happened with building this house. Leadership at GMC is definitely transitioning, which I see as a major reason for our issues. Any money they spent was to remedy situations we identified as contrary to specific conversations, signed drawings or submitted documents. It’s the main reason they agreed to spend that money in the first place. Our realty agent can attest that we made several compromises to help minimize their costs after we pointed out the issues.

Regarding the plumbing problem – since they chose to highlight this one in detail, I believe the leadership at GMC is unaware of the timeline for this problem. We let them know in late July that the outside spigot was putting out hot water only. Several weeks later, the plumber showed up (without an appointment) at a time that was inconvenient for us. He came back about a week later, but the job is still not done. The outside spigot screw is not intact and the grout that was damaged in fixing this problem has not been repaired. The plumber needed to tear into the ceiling to fix this. When the wallboard people came to do the repair, we sent them away because they did not come with insulation to replace what they removed during the repair. The insulation was just replaced last week. We are hopeful that the spigot and ceiling repair will be done soon----it’s been months since we first reported this problem. Pictures of today's state of plumbing repair are attached.

There are other fundamental issues that need attention such as interior walls popping out nails, missing rubber around dishwasher, partially completed concrete wall work and prematurely cracking concrete around downspouts, etc. But, now, rather than going thru the previous direct channels, GMC asked us to go thru Maverick, the warranty company. I would love to be able to rely on the integrity of GMC, but we’ll see. Lessons learned.

(Original) Had GMC build a house this year. Would I recommend GMC? Maybe, but with lessons learned. Gordon is basically retired and passing things on to his sons. So, it's difficult to figure out who's in charge, who to talk with and whose word to trust. Important issues can be passed around and then you feel ignored, especially after payment is made and you find things were not as expected. The main lesson is to have every decision in writing. Make sure the drawings are exactly as you want it. Check the numbers as it's not easy to figure out cost. Move in was in April and we're still having issues with plumbing, walls and grading that need to be addressed (it's Sep). Main subcontractors did nice work. The home seems well built, but definitely have mixed feelings about the experience.

Gordon has been absolutely amazing. He is extremely organized and progress is quick and efficient. Our home has gone up very quickly, and everyone we show is impressed at the quality. In my conversations with his subcontractors, they have expressed loyalty to him and a desire to do a good job. Our dealings with him have been pleasent, and he is always willing to discuss questions or concerns. I feel he is honest and fourthright in his dealings and I am thrilled we decided to use him as our builder!
