Deep in the heart of Cache Valley lies a place that I call my home brought to life by the Duke Building Co. I had the opportunity to work closely with the founder and CEO Riley Duke himself. Riley takes the time to listen and understand the things that are important to you. One thing I appreciate in a builder is someone who gives you options. With DBC, the options are endless. I didn't feel like I was stuck in a corner choosing 1 of 4 options. If there was something you didn't like, DBC would go the extra mile to find what fits your style and provide it as an option. When the cabinet installers placed our island, they inadvertently installed it in the wrong spot. I had noticed before the DBC got to it, and when I called Riley to explain the issue, he said "if it's wrong, we'll have them fix it, and if it's just not what you thought it would be, we'll look at our options" I really appreciated that. They corrected the issue and it looks great. They definitely put their customers first. Building a home is a big endeavor. Look no further than the DBC to guide you through that process. You won't be disappointed. A+ would recommend.

We built our house last year with Duke. It was a time that a lot of things were changing with supplies and labor and Duke worked with us to get our house done in the middle of all of that. Building can be emotional and difficult and they were patient with us with our questions and concerns. Our house is great and they held the subcontractors to high standards and high quality. There will always be some leftover projects after you move in and they've wrapped those up in a timely manner. Don't plan on moving again but if I ever built again I would use Duke.

As a potential client, these are important things you need to know:
- Many people have left 1 star reviews which have mysteriously disappeared. My husband left one just after closing on our house and somehow, it was taken down. I’ve seen several other reviews about an awful home building experience with Duke, but they have also mysteriously disappeared. Not sure how he was able to flag all of them to Google in order to get them removed.
-we moved in to our Duke built home about 3 years ago. We were promised a 4 month build and it ended up taking 9 months. (This was not due to the pandemic. After funding went through, nothing happened on our home for 2 months. The property sat completely empty.)
- I found a few contractors on the project myself because Riley couldn’t come up with people to do the work. He then used my contractors on subsequent projects.
- Our home ended up costing at least $30,000 more than our contracted price because of factors completely out of our control. (One being the cost of wood, which, if our project was actually started on time, we wouldn’t have had to pay the exorbitant wood costs because our home would have already been framed before the wood price hike.
- Our siding job is bad. Riley even said to us at one point “Your siding is bad” and then proceeded to offer no solution or do anything to fix it. We’ve been told by a few siding experts that our exterior siding job has many problems and will need to be redone soon, or we’ll have significant damage to the interior wood and need to replace that as well.
- When things went wrong, Riley loved to play the blame game. He even blamed his employees for problems we were having with our home. (As the boss, I’m pretty sure that everything that goes on in your business is under your jurisdiction and is your responsibility.)
- Duke did not care about the details of our home. We made and paid for several changes which, if I wasn’t on site monitoring everything, would have become permanent problems for us.
-at one point I was asked to sign a change order for $10,229 for permit costs. When I said “um, I’ve already paid all the permit costs, I was told “oh, ok well, they still need an extra $229, so please sign a change order for that.” If I wasn’t paying close attention to many details, we would have been way overcharged and had permanent issues in our home.
- I would never build with this company again and couldn’t recommend them to anyone I care about.

Ok. The owner just responded again and essentially called me a liar. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ The truth is, in Cache Valley, the best custom home builders do not have a large online presence. You have to find them by word of mouth. I truly wish you luck in your search to find a partner in building your home.

WE LOVE OUR HOME!! Duke Building is amazing in every way. The finish work in our home is far superior than any other new home I’ve seen. We have lived in our home over a year . I’ve never had to call Riley for a single problem. I can honestly promise you won’t be disappointed with Duke Building. I will never use another builder .
