Darby designed a complete renovation, along with an addition, to an old house we bought on St. Simons. He had some great ideas for changing the layout to better suit our needs; ideas we never would have thought of. When Darby first suggested doing a small addition, we were hesitant. I am so glad that Darby made us see the light. He was right; we definitely needed the addition! Also, we wanted our house to be more modern than a typical beach cottage and this made the project a little challenging. Darby was right there with us and the builder, making sure we did end up getting what we really wanted. We recommend Darby highly.

In the last two years Darby has designed two homes for us, a beach cottage on St Simons Island and a guest cottage at our farm in South Georgia. He also designed a master closet addition for our primary residence. Darby took our conceptual ideas and created exactly what we desired utilizing his experience and expertise.
Darby "hit a home run" with the beach cottage in giving us the traditional beach cottage appearance while incorporating the latest design requirements for a coastal property. For the guest cottage he matched the architecture of the main residence while creating a very efficient layout.
We have enjoyed working with Darby, as he was very patient while we worked with him in finalizing the designs. As a licensed professional engineer I have confidence in Darby's technical skills, and we highly recommend Darby based on our experiences.

I am a contractor on St Simons Island, Ga. and have been working on the Island since 1986. When I was asked by a potential client for an architect that might be willing to design a home on East Beach (and would not charge an arm and a leg to design) I recommended Darby, because we had worked together successfully in the past. He met with the clients I don't know how many times(a lot), and he then designed one of the best looking home I have ever built. When Darby, my client and I discussed the home, and what other homes I would consider the best I had built, I mentioned a home on the corner of 7th St, saying that I thought that that was my best effort on East Beach, it turned out the Darby had designed that house also, when he was working in John Tuten's office.
Both homes looked like they should be there and that they had been there forever. I was building a new home I had designed on Broadway years ago, and a girl came up to me and said I did a great job remodeling the house. I told her that it was actually a new home. She replied, "no that house has always been there". Although she was wrong, I didn't argue with her because that is the best compliment you can get as a builder, to be told that the house looks like it has been there forever, and should be there!
So, I don't think I could pay a higher compliment to Darby than this, due to the fact that two of the best looking homes I have ever built were designed by Darby, and that they look like they should be there.

What he came up with was not at all what we had envisioned but we could instantly see the beauty, logic and functionality of his design. We recently completed the project and we absolutely love it!
