I asked the Vice President of Operations at Coffey Engineering to give me a cost estimate for a drainage plan (PDP Drainage Plan). This person asked me to give him information on my property so that he can give the estimate. After I gave him the information, he never gave me the estimate, in spite of multiple requests. Coffey Engineering is not credible and I would NOT pay a penny for this company to do the work for my property.

Coffey engineering is a very good firm to work with. Excellent negotiators with public officials when it's necessary to be presenting projects for approvals. My company Melrose Construction Group has worked with this firm on several projects and has always received prompt and expert services. Would highly recommend for subdivisions and land development projects.

I was told that he & SD City surveyor are in agreement that the survey is agreed upon. 10 months from hiring Coffey Eng. I received the pdf in an email today Feb 16, 2017 of the final survey map with approval from the Licensed Land Surveyor State of California. Failed to show me exactly where my property lines are/told NDD developers my retaining wall was on their side of the property line so knocking it down without notice to me was acceptable stated Coffey in email to NDD cc'd to me stating I should hire new surveyor which I wound up doing to show me exactly where my property lines are. Waste of my money hiring Coffey Eng.

I had to keep calling & emailing in attempts to find out what was going on. The lead surveyor quit before things were finished w/no warning; found out when I emailed him for an update & question when they were going to be finished. (I went with them as the neighbor property potential buyer hired them to do a topological survey. I assumed the company was good as he is an architect & hired them.) It took prodding for communication to understand the process/language.
The company billed me for a complete job before it was completed. I called & emailed upset. This is before the guy who quit was still there. He told me not to worry that they would not be charging me anymore. I paid the bill worried still. Luckily he left a note that he told me this.
It was in an auto email I found out the head surveyor was no longer w/Coffey Eng. Directed to Chad I called/ He had to go find the paperwork & attempt to figure out what was done & not done. He has since complained to me that they are spending lots more time & billing hours communicating with the SD County Surveyor about my property. I have no idea what all they are communicating about. I was told something about "notes" going back and forth. The guy who quit had told me it was so many hours because he gave it to some guys as a "teaching experience" & that was why it had taken so many hours more than the estimate. He said that they would complete the job for what I had already paid them.
So months later after notes between the Coffey surveyors & SD County I was told they finally came out to put in the "monuments" at my “corners” “set” at the additional land “vacated” by SD City years ago.
Surveyors came, told there were two "corners" “round corner” between them. I questioned that they put a white paint mark at the end of the old retaining wall & told me that was the end of the property & still is. (So where are the extra 8 feet “vacated”?) John Coffey explained that the City somewhere along the years had changed the corners. The metal monuments were taken out & never put back in by the City when the sidewalks were altered.
One of the guys Anthony while putting in the monuments w/me attempting to understand where my property lines are started to argue telling me that he told me where they were months before. & What? The whole reason I had been willing to pay for the survey was to find out where my property lines are & he is arguing with me after months (9) of waiting to get the information. I was upset, told him I was not going to argue with him and contacted his boss Chad who told me that he had sent me a survey map. I told him that I am not a surveyor or engineer not understand. He called the two guys to speak to them. He told me that I should be speaking to Eric who was in charge of the other guy Anthony. So when it came time for the other NE corner to be set. I asked them again about where was the property line is I was told that there was a misunderstanding & he had to call his boss to show me the property line. I told him that was the whole reason I paid for the survey to find out where it was/is. They put in stakes to show me. Later same day received email it was not accurate. I had taken pictures as it is on the other side of retaining wall for my records. They would come back next day when I was not able to be home to show me. He took a picture of a stake. If it was a straight line between to points why was it off?

After a preliminary but relatively detailed telephone conversation, I meet with John at the site. He had taken the time to do further research prior to our meeting and was very thorough in his analysis about what our options were moving forward. I found him very professional, motivated to provide excellent service, and easy to work with. Looking forward to completing this job and utilizing this company again when needed.
