We are so glad that there was no where else to stay in Skagway and we found the Chilkoot Trail Outpost! It was perfect for our family vacation. We rented 2 cabins and everyone slept well. We had a van so it was no problem to drive back and forth from town. You would need a vehicle if you wanted to stay here. The place is quiet and tranquil. The breakfast every morning was a great way to start the day and amenities were clean and all of our needs were met by happy smiling shiny friendly staff. Thanks Courtney!!

In the summer of 2019, I had to work in this place with the Work and travel program. I have never had such a terrible and traumatic experience as those few months. It was a nightmare. Kathy did not specify where the staff would be living until we arrived. The house we were supposed to live in was rented out to clients. And we had to live in very old, dirty, holey and mouse-infested mobile homes. Although it was promised that the tips would be distributed to all employees, she took them herself. Those whom she liked, she allowed to work more, those she didn't - she didn't. Before we arrived, Kathy said we could take a bus to Skagway whenever we wanted, but when we got there, it turned out that there was no bus going there. We were imprisoned in that area because we were not allowed to use cars, even though we had driving licenses. Emotional violence, bullying, and blackmail were used daily. I have never met such a horrible person as Kathy. Worst summer experience ever. I do not recommend anyone to go here, because the food served is not fresh, the employees are exploited and the guests are cheated. The only understanding and good person here was Fred, Kathy's husband. I am praying for him.

Every year our non-profit organization Conservation Volunteers International Program facilitates trailwork for volunteers with USFS in Juneau and NPS in Skagway (check us out on ConservationVIP.org) and in Skagway we are fortunate to stay at the Chilkoot Trail Outpost near the Chilkoot trailhead. Can't say enough about the location, the owners (and now new owners), the cleanliness, food and rest & relaxation our hard working volunteers experience here. Thank you for having us and we continue to look forward for spending time here for years to come.

10/10! Drop all the hotels in downtown Skagway and make your way up to this beautiful family owned business.. cabins were comfortable, clean and cozy - Kathy, her two children and staff were so welcoming. The food Kathy makes is very delicious, I’m still dreaming about that halibut and salmon. The portions were more than enough. We Ended our night by the camp fire roasting marshmallows while learning so much about the gold rush from Eric who was so generous to share lots of knowledgeable stories that we will never forget. The only issue is that we stayed for just one night. We would have stayed all week! You won’t regret staying here. Thank you so much again for your hospitality and providing such a great experience. We had an amazing time.

Can only talk about the food: sweet local place to grab a bite. The server will even give a brief history bit of Dyea and the surrounding area! Don't remember the exact name, but I got some form of a salmon sandwich. It tasted amazing, along with the side dishes that came with it.

I am a bit disappointed with the price (~$24+) for a very very small breakfast sandwhich-sized meal. Other than that, would highly recommend!

For years, we have stayed a week with a Conservation Volunteers International Program volunteer group at the Chilkoot lodge to support NPS with trail work and conservation activities. Prior to this stay, they work with USFS in Juneau. This stay, so close to where the work is done and away from the town and cruise ships, is a welcome after work retreat for the volunteers. Breakfast and dinners are always delightful, the rooms are good and clean, refreshments can be purchased in the bar prior to dinner and the host and staff are welcoming and flexible. Thank you for another memorable week.

A little off the beaten trail but worth the journey! Cathy and her crew are so welcoming, you are glad to have arrived and sorry to leave. I was attracted by the unique buildings which Cathy built herself around the turn of the century. While looking around and taking a few photos, I was invited in for food. Why not? And it was worth it. The salmon melt with beans and coleslaw was delicious. Local spring water was served and the atmosphere was very relaxed.
For surf and turf they need 45 minutes notice - next time!
