As a general contractor, I need a design team that can produce architectural plans in a reasonable time frame. Also, it is highly important to get a set that is accurate, errors free and detailed. That ensures a smooth construction process and prevents resubmits in the middle of the construction project. Cabrera and Associates is the firm that will provide all of the above. DONT USE THIS COMPANY - I recommended Cabrera and Associates to my clients who needed drawings done for the remodel project they hired me to help them with. I regret that recommendation because Humbert’s and staff took months to create the drawings properly so that permits could be issued. Mistakes in their drawings caused delays to the project start as they were incomplete and incorrect. Very poor communication causing me to have to take my valuable time to make repeated follow up calls. My clients still cannot get final sign off on their permits months after the project is complete because the city requested changes to the drawing set submitted Humbert and team still have not been done. I’ve made repeated calls for a solution to assist my clients in getting final sign off and have had no reply. I guess the next step has to be an official complaint to the BBB.

Humbert Cabrera and his staff prepared the plans for a remodel of our 100-year old Mission Hills home and the conversion of our garage to an ADU (granny flat). His design is brilliant in every way. He took our rough ideas and turned them into a stunning remodel. Construction has begun). He and his staff moved the proposal through the San Diego planning department -- no easy task, due to the age of the house.

Humbert is not only a brilliant architect, he is also a wonderful man. He really cares about his clients. I would use his architectural services again, and without reservations. He is truly a five-star architect!

We hired this firm on February 2018 to draw plans to facilitate the permits for an existing ADU. He came out and looked at the project and said he could draw out the plans for construction of a sub-foundation that would lead to the approval of county permits. This process took over 5 years, the first year he procastinated and had to pay fines. Then there was a continuing series of set backs, one of the delays, he lost the plans which took weeks to find them, as we expressed our frustation he called and gave me a nasty lecture about not being grateful enough. He referred us to a contractor about a year and a half ago. This contractor did a fine job, in the process he broke a lot of thing like the phone line, water pipes 5 times, a gate. We find out a year into the project that he did not have a contractors license. This contractor, a friend of Mr. Cabrera, walked away and disappeared leaving things unfinished and never fixed the things he broke. We had to hire someone else to finish. I would never recommend this firm.

Humbert is very helpful and easy to work with. He'll be honest with you about the REAL timelines involved in permitting, not just sugarcoat it to win your business. He does a huge amount of business but always manages to treat each client very individually.
