Built with Hour Homes (HH) in Sullivan Estates in 2020. HH is disorganized, dishonest, and sloppy, and prioritizes churning out new homes at the expense of clients who have already closed. Quality control is non-existent from this builder who claims to produce luxury homes, as HH cuts corners and tries to get away with as much as they can, relying on homeowners not knowing their rights and only fixing what the County catches and enforces.
HH left the dirt excavated for the road/foundation in a massive mound in my front yard and refused to remove it, passing it off as a “rolling Irish hill” in their “Irish countryside community.” HH has abandoned dirt on multiple other lots in Sullivan Estates, to the point some homeowners refer to it as “Dirt Mound Estates.” All these mounds are on finished, inhabited lots.
An HH rep claimed he couldn’t think of any reason why HH would remove the dirt because they didn’t need dirt on their other projects, so I had to get the County involved. The owner tried to claim I hadn’t reported it through their warranty process and shouldn’t have involved the County, gave conflicting excuses about delays, misrepresented HH’s conversations with the County about acceptable paths forward, and blamed the County for allowing his company to leave the dirt behind. It took threats of a lawsuit to finally get the dirt removed nearly two years after my initial warranty request.
I also had to involve the County to compel HH to remove large piles of construction gravel left along my driveway, resolve erosion issues throughout the property, properly grade the yard, and correct the sump pump from releasing on top of the septic tank.
Abandoned underground cables were left protruding from the ground in multiple places in my yard.
Carpet tack strips were not hammered down, leaving spikes sticking out of the floor in every carpeted room.
Hot water tank was mis-wired so there was no hot water upon move-in.
Hot water tank was too small for house (50-gal for 4 bed/3.5 bath) so shower/bath add-ons I paid extra for were unusable. HH said that tank size was standard, so they knowingly offer paid add-ons without the infrastructure to make them usable.
Optional private bath was installed in wrong bedroom.
Aux heat was never connected.
Stones fell out of fireplace within days of closing.
Gutters weren’t secured to roof and were left hanging off side of house.
Screen was missing from kitchen window.
Driveway began crumbling within months of closing.
HH installed a trail cam on my lot during construction to purportedly monitor their trailer on the neighboring lot for theft, but instead pointed it directly at my house and left it recording for months after closing despite my repeated requests to remove it.
My street sign was cardboard with number stickers while other homes received wooden signs.
Before closing, HH promised to conduct an assessment to ensure tree removal would not impact the remaining root system, which was a complete falsity. Seven trees fell within inches of my silt fence, one of which struck my house within a day of HH conducting heavy construction nearby (to which HH said they are not responsible for damage they cause). Two tree removal services flagged ~20 trees at risk of striking my home. HH has built a reputation in the community and with local vendors for screwing homeowners when it comes to tree removal.
Post-closing communication is horrible. For anything beyond a minor repair, HH will do everything they can to avoid responsibility, such as blaming the homeowner and simply not responding to emails. There is no organization, schedule, or urgency for repairs or commitments despite daily progress on other homes (i.e., homes HH hasn’t been paid for yet). When crews do come, they show up unscheduled and unannounced, conduct their business and leave without saying a word about what they did and why. The crews showed no respect for my property or the community by leaving trash and cigarettes in my yard and along the street.
