Perfection! From the moment I first contacted John Lee to the Sunday afternoon they finished our oriental garden my husband and I knew we would receive five star treatment and results. I happened on this company when doing a nationwide search of oriental garden design companies and Lee's Oriental Landscape Art popped up. I was thrilled to find that it was local in the DMV and reached out to John with a few questions. He immediately responded and thus began a one year communication that ended with a back yard renovation to which I would give ten stars if that were an option. The initial drawing John provided told us we were likely to like our new space; after working with him to perfect the design based on special drainage needs, personal preferences and some soil and terrain challenges, we ended up simply loving it! The final outcome is a magical garden that could not be improved upon, both in the day and at night. The up lighting is superb and highlights the special nature of the plants and trees John selected. Our accent boulders, handpicked by John, are already the envy of many of our neighbors and we feel like no one could have understood and interpreted our preferences into a more unique and gorgeous garden.

Despite his careful selection of plants, trees, statuary and materials, John was open to our (very) few requests for (very) small tweaks to his design and he is a good collaborator. He and his team are incredibly hard working, efficient and committed to their schedule. They arrived promptly each day, tidied up and showed up again the next day on time. We were astonished at how quickly such an elaborate project could be completed and found it very different from the much longer time periods other contractors in our neighborhood take to complete smaller projects. When John first gave us the estimated time to completion we were skeptical that something this beautiful could emerge after such a short time but he said they were efficient and he was definitely on the mark!

I could go on and on about this company, and likely will as visitors comment on its beauty, but for now will simply say that my husband and I unequivocally recommend him to anyone looking for a unique and magical result, no matter the current condition of their space! We are already thinking of other projects in our future and are looking forward to working with John and his team again.

I lived in Japan for 2 years and gained a deep appreciation for the serenity of Japanese gardens. Upon my return to the United States, I hoped to turn my yard into an oasis reminiscent of my time in Japan. From the first time I contacted Mr. Lee, he was professional, communicative, kind, and understanding. He is a true artist! Mr. Lee came to our home, made sure he understood our vision, and created a design beyond what we could have imagined. Next, we visited his property and learned about how this family business was started by Mr. Lee’s father (we even got to choose a tree planted by his father over 40 years ago). When we decided to add lighting and expand the design to our entire property, Mr. Lee listened thoughtfully and revamped the plans to ensure we could stay within a budget we were comfortable with. A few months later (when the weather was just right and our other outdoor projects were complete), Mr. Lee returned with his crew and spent 4 days making our dream yard a reality. He was on site every step of the way, carefully placing each plant and boulder “just so” to ensure the optimal result. The finished product is beyond anything we hoped for, and we feel grateful to have Mr. Lee’s work on display at our home… it truly is “living art!”

John is an artist!!!! He came home for our first consult and interview. He took measurements, took pix and a few days later he sent us a 3D rendering of the design via email along with an invoice. We approved the project and waited. It turns out that John is very sought after and does jobs all around the U.S and the world. A year later, John arrived with Fidel and Marcos early in the morning. 8 hours later they delivered a work of art. Our Japanese Garden was worth both the money and the wait. Thank you,John!

Lee's Oriental Landscape Art, LLC has been amazing!! After scheduling a visit to see his nursery, John Lee was very attentive to our needs and was able to design the perfect design/landscape for our front yard. After we had received the design, which included a water feature our next step was HOA approval. Throughout waiting through the approval process, John Lee was very patient and even gave us updates on his end/scheduling/etc. Once our design was approved, John Lee was able to schedule for the work. John Lee and crew were able to complete the work morning-late afternoon with no issues. After completion, John Lee gave us tips/pointers to care for the new plants/water fountain. All in all, we are very impressed with Lee's Oriental Landscape Art, and their design, care, communication, pricing, etc. We would highly recommend!!!

We are absolutely thrilled with our new “Zen garden” which just got completed in only three days by John and his wonderful and efficient crew. The outcome far exceeded the initial rendering that John presented to us when we contracted with Lee’s Oriental Landscape Art last August. John graciously invited us to visit his vast and impressive collection of trees, bushes, fountains and Asian sculptures and we had the opportunity to actually pick out a forty-year-old Weeping Cypress, which became the focal point of our garden. We cannot sing John’s praises enough from our initial meeting with him where he shared his astute observations of our needs, his experienced and creative recommendations and design, to ultimately providing us with the ‘paradise’ we envisioned (see before and after photos below). We are so grateful that we found Lee’s Oriental Landscaping and wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone looking to create an extraordinary outdoor environment.

What started as an impulse trip to a nursery 7 months ago, has culminated in THE most beautiful private garden I've ever had the pleasure to stand in. With Covid in full swing, and no chance to travel abroad, I came to John Lee with a simple ask, "can you bring a taste of asia to my home?" And bring he did! John and I spent a couple weeks going back and forth on a landscaping design, before ultimately deciding that the current deck needed to be scrapped for something more fitting. John came up with a new deck design that gently opened up to the garden, without obstructing line of sight. With that done we worked out the rest of the details, ultimately incorporating a dry stream to help with water management, which had been an issue since the day I purchased the house.

Working with John on this project has been a delight, and I'm completely satisfied with the service he has provided. I've included some pictures in this review, but keep in mind that I'm far from a photographer.

John was wonderful to work with in creating this beautiful landscape for us. His vision of what will look best in the areas that needed attention was spot on. In meeting with us, John was always on time. In developing the plan, he encouraged us to communicate our thoughts and, as the project unfolded, modified the initial concept as needed so that we all were pleased with the outcome. The work started and ended as planned, and the areas were always left in a clean and neat condition. He is certainly one of the best contractors with whom we have ever dealt.
