These are truly two of the hardest working people I have ever met. They presented me with more offers in 6 months than we had seen in 10 years. I contacted Helen to sell a very difficult small property I inherited from my father. It included a dilapidated building and a very obstinate tenant. She overcame the tenant without legal action and sold the property in 8 weeks. Extraordinary! Job well done.

Recently a friend also had a complicated property that had been listed for 5 years with multiple agents. Within 9 months, Helen got a contract for a very reasonable price. Another excellent job well done! Can't say enough about her services and expertise.

I scheduled to view a building for my growing business. I was contacted a few days before the viewing because Helen was leaving town. I was asked to reschedule the viewing for a date three weeks later. Although this was odd, I moved forward with the viewing.

The tour went well. I did have a few questions about the upkeep of the space. The property had a leak in the ceiling. I asked her about the leak. The only information offered was that it should stop since the upstairs tenant moved.

After viewing the property, I received an email requesting proof that I had enough money in my bank account to prove that I could pay 6 months rent and a security deposit. The email also had the property application attached. Although the application expressed that two years of tax returns should be submitted, the email requested three. I completely understand the need to establish financial fitness. However, this email read more like prejudice and redline gatekeeping.

While I am willing to submit to standard application proceedings, the organization did not answer basic questions to establish their fitness as a property management team that I would want to grow my business with. I responded to the email with basic questions about their practices, including responsibility for repairs and lease options. They never answered my email. The team was responsive until the day of the viewing. Seeing a Black business owner changed their responsiveness to my inquiry.

This company claims that it partners with clients. That has not been my experience. Furthermore, if they are doing any partnership, it is mostly likely not with minority individuals. With clear bias and prejudice against minorities, perhaps it is not best to have a property management company in an area where you will have contact with Black business owners.

I will launch a formal complaint based on my experience.

We met Helen to see a potential live/work location in Baltimore city. Communication via email started with delays (-1 star), but then picked up a bit so that was fine. We agreed to meet at the location at a certain time. She was 10 minutes late (-1 star), never called or emailed to confirm our meeting time or that she was running late (-1 star), so I reached out as I was tired of guessing. When finally meeting she was very unpleasant, seemed extremely judgey and definitely condescended (-1 star). She knew little about the actual property except to talk about the owner of the building and her financial struggles - extremely unprofessional as the owner’s representative. She asked what kind of business I’d be operating and when I told her she made a face and proceeded to “school” me on a profession I’ve been successfully working in for 20+ years (-1 star).

I’ve also worked in real estate and understand the permitting and licensing requirements necessary to even begin or operate a business, either retail or in-home. Basically anyone able to read and move a finger with access to the internet and has initiative, can find all the info relating to whatever business endeavor, but Helen chose to be obnoxious, prejudicial and just plain old-fashioned annoying. As a former real estate professional I wouldn’t trust this person with my property or my livelihood. As someone who is actively looking for a business location, I don’t trust her if only because of how I was treated as a potential leasee. Just an overall waste of time meeting that one. It’s unfortunate because I do think that location fits my needs, but the thought of having to deal with that person again is very off-putting. I gave her one star because that is mandatory, otherwise she’d have a negative number. Save your time and keep your investment potentials, find a broker that people will actually like making business with, not someone who will divert business.
