We hired Josette Wheatley from AES Drafting Services, Design Solutions in Berlin, MD, to modify our generic, off-the-shelf home building plans so that they would match the current IRC building specifications in our county.
Many of the home plans that can be purchased online lack the details needed to match rigorous building codes and require a makeover by a designer, architect or engineer to get approval, and the requisite building permit needed to begin a project.
We found Josette Wheatley, who seemed very knowledgeable about modifying plans so that they meet county requirements. What reassured us about selecting her was her professional connection to an engineer who could stamp Josette's finished project, thus rendering it more likely to be approved to receive a building permit.
Josette was very enthusiastic about starting our project and we are happy to say it was approved by our county.
If you plan to use AES Drafting Services, do plan for the project to take some time. What we originally were told would take a couple of weeks, ended up taking two months.
In Josette's defense, she did have a family wedding within the timeline of our project.
She also was not the best at communicating back to us about the status of our project, and we had to repeatedly email, text and call her to get updates. It would take her several days to a week to get back to us.
In the end, she does get the job done. If we could go back in time, we would have asked her to include a time frame for completion in the contract. Other than that, we are satisfied with her work as a CAD designer. If you do choose to employ her services, ask for a timeline, and ask for periodic communication about your project, and have those documented in the official contract.
Other than timeliness in communication, we were satisfied with her work!
