Most of the communication was done via phone calls and emails . They did a wonderful job providing me and my family with updates . We had MK Builders work on our home for a new roof . We were looking for a local company in Alhambra, CA. They replaced our old shingle roof with a new Owens Corning roofing system . They also replaced all new plywood as our roof had 3 layers . We passed inspections and the job was finished in six days . MK builders is a family ran business that did an outstanding job on our home .

Like all of you, I read all of the great reviews and was excited to use MK Builders for my roofing project. My project is a little more complicated and involved some rafter repair and replacement. I think MK Builders might work just fine for a simple roofing project, but they didn't work out for me. I hope to provide an honest review below.

Robert was able to meet with me a handful of times in person and over the phone. Because my project was costly and involved structural repairs I had many questions. He seems like a good person and he could have been an effective project manager if the project got underway.

Here is a summary of the issues that I ran into with MK Builders and why I am giving this rating:

1. MK Builders wanted to give an all-inclusive price for the roof and rafters but where they would decide which rafters to replace if needed. In the end I insisted that they itemize the costs so I can compare with other contractors.

2. Once I asked for an itemized estimate and asked other detailed questions and waited 1-2 weeks, Robert said that they were too busy for me... ever. That was surprising considering that we invested so much time on the estimates.

3. Robert had to ask the owner for any detailed questions and responses. Unfortunately, I didn't always get a response to each question and in the amount of detail that I was looking for. In some cases I got a response that the owner was not willing to do something. I wish I could have talked to the owner instead.

I told Robert that they shouldn't take on projects if they can't see them through to completion. It's a really bad experience to invest so many hours and be told that they are too busy.

Called because I wanted to use someone close in the area. Got a call back, he examines roof on line, asks questions which I liked. However, since I already got a few estimates already and mentioned to him what was really needing to be done, he went on to tell me that Spanish tiles last a life time and usually didn’t need to be replaced. Sir, I’m calling to see if you can replace the Spanish tile, the work that we need done is where the Spanish tile is at. It’s not just replacing the Spanish tile but fixing and replacing all that entails the work in that area. I must have circled back to say the area that needs to be done at least twice. If he kept questioning me after I kept telling him what was needed, he could of easily said, I can go out for an estimate-maybe that would have helped him better and he would be able to see in person rather than making educated guesses from a google search. We are getting many things done on the house, it’s not just the roof. He asked if we were using permits for the work being done inside the house. Um-yes!! Why would we not pull permits for a remodel? Then he asked when I was planning to have the roof done, I answered, “We could have it done next week if we wanted. We are not sure when we will make decisions with all the tradesmen.” He says, “I can’t do this next week. Im booked for a few weeks.” Bro, that’s a figure of speech that I said. Seriously. I just cut him off mid sentence blurting out, “from this call I will use one of the other businesses that gave me an estimate. Thank you” and hung up.
