BAGG has gone downhill. I had to call the scheduler 6 times and 2 emails to get her to agree to put my inspection on their calendar. The inspector shows up and is extremely unkempt and unknowledgeable about the inspections. I called the inspector for some follow up questions to make sure our corrections would satisfy his requirements, no call back. It’s not possible to work with BAGG anymore.

This business is a racket. Watch out for these snakes! I am a small business owner in Santa Clara, Ca and when we first opened our machine shop it was required by the city of Santa Clara that we anchor any equipment over 400lbs. Well long story short when doing something like this, as well as many home modifications that require anchors of any kind, your are required by the state of California to have it inspected by a "Special Inspector".

So, when I was down at the city they gave me a list of qualified inspectors that I could reach out to and have the special inspection performed. I found this engineering firm(BAGG Engineers) that was local and was 1.6 miles away from my location to be exact(8 minutes driving one way). I reached out and explained what the job was that I needed done and asked if they could send me a quote.

Sure enough within 30 minutes they had me a quote sent over. They had told me in the email to please sign the quote and return to proceed with scheduling a time and date to complete the work. Then after I signed and emailed the copy back to them I received an email from the lady in the office and it said that I needed to pay before I could schedule a time and date to have the work complete. I was a little taken back by this because I never pay for work before services are complete so I ended up calling them and asking them what was up with this policy because to me it was bogus.

I then was transferred to Jason Van Zwol their VP. He told me that that was their policy for home owners because it is really hard to get them to pay. But since I was a small business owner he would tell his scheduling department to schedule me to have the work complete without prior payment.

Finally the next week one of the inspectors from BAGG came out and performed the work. He arrived at 10am as scheduled and was done with the inspection and write up by 10:30am. It took him all of 30 minutes to check the torque on 24 concrete wedge anchors and complete the final write up.

I was quoted $1,005 for up to 4 hours of inspection, a final affidavit, travel miles, and an hour for the time of a supervisor. When the final bill came I was billed $685 for 3 hours of work, travel miles, and a final affidavit for the city. When I saw the final invoice I was a little shocked and curious why I was billed for 3 hours of work. I then tried to call BAGG for some answers and was told Jason was on the phone and would return my call soon. I waited a few days and heard nothing so I tried to phone him again. This time I was able to get him on the phone and I asked him how they came up with 3 hours of work to bill. He really had nothing to say he was pretty much silent on the phone. I told him I was not going to pay for work hours that were not used and he told me he would remove the 2 hours of over billed time and send me a new invoice.

All in all this company will try and make you pay upfront for an inflated quote and then try and hold back as much money as they can when it comes time to bill. I would not trust these snakes at all and if you are in need of a special inspector I would recommend to look elsewhere.

Bagg Engineering provided us intensive geogological analysis and foundation consulting for a new house on a geologically-tricky lot. The work included a lot of trenching and soil analysis and long-term soil-movement study. Throughout we were happy with the quality and care of the work, and the great experienced advice offered that illuminated the issues and a path forward. Final report was thorough and helpful.

My testing laboratory of choice. One test is worth more than a thousand expert witnesses opinion.
